MADISON, S.D. – Jamestown (N.D.) was voted as the preseason favorite to win the inaugural North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Softball, announced Thursday.  The NSAA preseason softball poll was voted by the league coaches.

The Jimmies, which finished last season with an overall record of 21-13, scored 24 points and received four first-place votes in the preseason ballot. 

Valley City State (N.D.) was tabbed to finish second in the preseason coaches' poll.  The Vikings tallied 17 points.

Dakota State (S.D.) picked up the final first-place vote and totaled 15 points to finish third in the preseason ballot.  Presentation (S.D.) was voted to finish fourth (12 points) and Mayville State (N.D.) fifth with 7 points.

Jamestown and Valley City State kick off their season on Feb. 25 as they head to St. Paul, Minn.

Dakota State starts their season with a four-game series at Saint Mary (Neb.) in Omaha on March 1-2.

Presentation and Mayville State are scheduled to start their 2014 season in Tucson, Ariz.  Both teams are slated to play 10 games in the Tucson Invitational with the Saints starting on March 11 and the Comets starting on March 16.

The first-ever NSAA conference four-game series is set for April 5-6.  The four-game series match-ups include Jamestown versus Valley City State (in Valley City, N.D. on April 5 and in Jamestown, N.D. on April 6) and Mayville State at Dakota State.  Presentation will play their first-ever NSAA conference doubleheader on April 9 as they visit Dakota State in Madison, S.D.

The North Star-Frontier Softball Conference Tournament takes place in Jamestown, N.D. on May 2-4.  The six-team double-elimination unaffiliated conference tournament format will be played at the Lyle Lawrence Field.  The top six teams based upon the last regular-season ranking in the NSAA-Frontier unaffiliated grouping will participate in the conference tournament.  The winner of the NSAA-Frontier conference tournament will earn an automatic bid to the NAIA Softball National Tournament Opening Round on May 12-14.
