MADISON, S.D. – Valley City State (N.D.) swept the first North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) conference football weekly honors, announced Monday.  The Vikings, receiving votes to the NAIA Football Preseason Coaches' Top 25 national poll, defeated Jamestown (N.D.) 31-14 in the annual Paint Bucket rivalry game.

NSAA Football Defensive Player of the Week
Austin Flores – Valley City State (N.D.) – 5'9", 235 lbs., Junior, linebacker – Waipahu, Hawaii – Flores recorded four solo tackles and eight assist tackles in the victory for VCSU.  In addition, he had an interception and forced fumble two times in the game.

NSAA Football Offensive Player of the Week
Kurtis Wall – Valley City State (N.D.) – 6'3", 215 lbs., Freshman, quarterback – Laveen, Ariz. – In his first career star, Wall completed 16 passes in 23 attempts for 194 yards to give Vikings a 31-14 road victory in Jamestown.  He had two passing touchdowns.

NSAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Thomas Cortez – Valley City State (N.D.) – 6'0", 180 lbs., Sophomore, kicker – Haiku, Hawaii; Cortez converted all four PAT kicks and a 25-yard field goal to led VCSU in the season opener.  He had six kick-offs for a total of 248 yards and recorded a longest kick-off of 65 yards.

Looking Ahead
All NSAA football team will be in action on Saturday.  Presentation will be playing their first football game of the season on Saturday, hosting Luther (Iowa).  Valley City State travels to Sioux City, Iowa to take on the NAIA's top-ranked team Morningside.  Below is the schedule for Saturday's games:
