MADISON, S.D. – The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) announced Monday its fifth edition of the Softball Player-/Pitcher-of-the-Week honors.  Samantha Mitchell of Dakota State (S.D.) and Brittany Lehner of Valley City State (N.D.) were named Co-NSAA Softball Player-of-the-Week, while Emily Snow of Jamestown (N.D.) was selected as NSAA Pitcher-of-the-Week.

Samantha Mitchell – Dakota State (S.D.) – 5'2" – Freshman – Shortstop – Buckley, Wash. – Mitchell was perfect at the plate (4-for-4) two times (versus Mayville State, N.D. and Mount Marty, S.D.) last week as the Trojans earned three victories for the week.  In a 13-10 thriller over Mayville State (N.D.) on April 7, she recorded a hit cycle (home run, triple, double and single) and produced four runs batted in (RBIs).  For the week, Mitchell was 12-for-27 at the plate (.444 batting average) with eight runs scored and produced nine RBIs.  She produced six extra-bases hits (two home runs, three triples and a double) and recorded a slugging percentage of .926.  Mitchell swiped five bases in five attempts.

Brittany Lehner – Valley City State (N.D.) – 5'11" – Senior – Third Base – Watertown, S.D. – Lehner recorded at least two hits in five of eight games as the Vikings went 6-2 for the week.  She hit three home runs in a span of three games, including two game-changing blasts in the late innings, to help VCSU to a four-game series sweep at Presentation (S.D.).  For the week, Lehner was 11-for-23 at the plate for a batting average of .478.  She added three home runs and recorded a slugging percentage of .870.  Lehner scored four times and produced eight RBIs (all RBIs came in against Presentation).  She also had an on-base percentage of .520 last week.

North Star Athletic Association Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week
Emily Snow – Jamestown (N.D.) – 5'6" – Senior – Pitcher – Rio Linda, Calif. – Snow earned her second NSAA Pitcher-of-the-Week honor this season, helping the Jimmies go undefeated in six games last week.  She went 3-0 on the pitching mound as she tossed a pair of complete game victories (versus Valley City State, N.D. and Great Falls, Mont.).  Snow recorded two victories against VCSU, including a 4-1 complete game victory in the first game and UJ held on to win the second game 302 as Snow worked for two innings in relief.  For the week, Snow tossed 16 innings and allowed five runs on nine hits.  She recorded an earned run average of 2.19 and struck out a total of 17 batters.

Recap from last week games
Dakota State (S.D.) swept Mayville State (N.D.) in North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) conference doubleheader on April 7.  The Trojans won the first game in a slugfest by the score of 13-10 and went on to cruise in the second game 8-1.

Valley City State (N.D.) and Jamestown (N.D.) kicked off their NSAA conference season on April 8 at the VCSU's football turf field.  The Jimmies went on to sweep the Vikings with a 4-1 game one victory and held on to a 3-2 eight innings thriller.

Valley City State earned their first NSAA victories as they swept Mayville State on April 9.  The Vikings posted scores of 2-1 and 3-1 to earn a doubleheader sweep over the Comets.

Presentation (S.D.) kicked off their first-ever NSAA conference games with a doubleheader sweep over Dakota State on April 9.  The Saints erased a pair of four-run deficit to earn a doubleheader sweep over the Trojans 11-5 and 9-8. 

PC dropped a pair of non-conference games at Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) on April 10.  The Tigers defeated the Saints 5-3 and 10-2.

Jamestown swept an NSAA conference doubleheader over Mayville State on April 10 in Jamestown, N.D.  The Jimmies defeated the Comets 7-1 and 6-5.  Mayville State is 3-15 overall record and 1-7 in NSAA conference play.

Dakota State split a non-conference doubleheader with in-state rival Mount Marty (S.D.) on April 11.  The Trojans dominated the Lancers in the first game 11-3 in six innings, but fell short in the night cap losing 8-4. 

Valley City State swept a four-game series at Presentation on April 12 and 13 in Aberdeen, S.D.  The Vikings posted scores of 12-9, 10-8, 14-4 (5 innings) and 12-8 to extend their winning streak to six games.  VCSU is 17-15 overall record and 6-2 in NSAA conference play.  PC is 13-20 overall record and 2-4 NSAA record.

After earning a doubleheader split at NCAA Division II Black Hills State (S.D.) on April 9, future NSAA member Dickinson State (N.D.) swept a tripleheader at Dakota State on April 12.  The Blue Hawks defeated the Trojans 5-0, 7-3 and 9-1 (6 innings) to raise their overall record to 21-13.  Dakota State is 8-22 overall record and 3-3 in NSAA conference.

UJ made it six straight wins after they swept a doubleheader with Great Falls (Mont.) on April 12.  The Jimmies won by the score of 5-3 and 5-4 to lift their overall record to 15-11.  Jamestown is undefeated in four NSAA conference games (4-0).

Looking Ahead
Mayville State (N.D.) is scheduled to host Great Falls (Mont.) in a non-conference four-game series on April 15-16 in Mayville, N.D.

Jamestown (N.D.) travels to Dickinson, N.D. on April 15 to visit NSAA's future member Dickinson State in a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. (Central Time)/3 p.m. (Mountain Time).

The NSAA Softball conference returns back to action with a four-game series on Friday on Saturday.  Dakota State (S.D.) will host Jamestown, while Mayville State is slated to travel to Aberdeen, S.D. to take on Presentation.

Valley City State (N.D.) will play home and away with Dickinson State.  VCSU hosts the Blue Hawks on Friday and travels back to Dickinson, N.D for Saturday's doubleheader.

Next Monday, Presentation will face Mount Marty (S.D.) in Yankton, S.D.  Dakota State is scheduled to host Dordt (Iowa) in Madison. Dickinson State welcomes Black Hills State in a non-conference action in Dickinson, N.D.
