MADISON, S.D. – Aleona Reyes of Jamestown (N.D.) and Michael Hoffman of Dakota State (S.D.) were named to inaugural North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) conference runners-of-the-week, announced Monday.
NSAA Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Aleona Reyes – Jamestown (N.D.) – Senior – Belen, New Mexico – Reyes, a two-time NAIA Cross Country All-American runner, placed fifth in the Randy Smith Invitational on Sept. 13. She was the top NAIA runner across the finish line (top 4 runners were from NCAA schools) with a time of 18 minutes and 31 seconds. A total of 79 runners competed in the women's 5K race in Glyndon, Minn.
NSAA Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Michael Hoffman – Dakota State (S.D.) – Senior – Beresford, S.D. – Hoffman, coming back for his senior year after taking his medical red-shirt (injury) last season, finished fourth in the Herb Blakely Invitational. He earned the lead for the majority of the race, but fell behind with just 500 yards left to the finish line as he was inside the pack with three other runners. He finished with a time of 26 minutes and 39 seconds in the 8K race, where the race started with a brief downpour rain. A total of 74 runners competed in the race at the Madison Country Club.
All NSAA cross country teams will be idle this week. Dakota State, Jamestown and Valley City State (N.D.) heads to St. Paul, Minn. on Sept. 28 to compete in the annual Roy Griak Invitational. The meet features numerous quality teams, including NCAA schools, from the Midwest region.
